Imaginative Play

Have you ever noticed your child putting teddy to bed? Giving their dolly a bath or ‘talking’ on the phone?

Children love to play pretend games with their toys and often use their own experiences as part of their play, as they act out everyday situations or events. Playing in this way lets them explore things that have happened or might happen – this helps them to make sense of their world and the relationships that are a part of it.

It’s worth remembering that children learn by watching and copying the behaviour and language used by others around them. It can be interesting to watch and listen to your child as they talk and play. You might recognise some of the mannerisms and phrases that they use – a strong reminder of the importance of being a positive role model!
